Pre-CRC Events, October 2, 2009

A regional training session was organized for all the RAL regional officers. This session was held from 10:00 AM to 3:00 PM. The society President Mr. Gordon Holness and the Executive Vice-President Mr. Jeff Littleton also attended the session.

 

A orientation session was organized for all the local and international attendees who arrived from different RAL Chapters. This session was held from 4:00 PM to 5:00 PM, where all the attendees were briefed with the event schedule of the CRC2009.

 

From 6:00 PM to 9:00 PM, a welcome cocktail reception was organized, to facilitate the attendees to meet their colleagues from 18 different RAL Chapters. This welcome reception was organized by the ASHRAE Kuwait Student Branch members, some of them who graduated last semester. A special welcome gift, comprising of traditional sweet, Local Henna and incense was distributed to the attendees.

CRC2009, October 3-4, 2009

A Executive Caucus session was held chaired by Dr. Essam Khalil (Nominating Member, RAL ASHRAE), where nominations for upcoming society executives were presented and debated on their calibration for the positions. This session was held from 7:30 AM to 9:15 AM, which was reconvened to vote on October 4, 2009 from 7:30 AM to 9:30 AM.

 

The Business session started at 9:30 AM, chaired by Prof. Walid Chakroun (DRC, RAl,  ASHRAE) with call to order and opening remarks, appointment of secretary, appointment of parliamentarian, DRC introduction of recording secretary, roll call (of delegates and alternates), introduction of attendees. This session was attended by Mr. Gordon Holness (President, ASHRAE), Mr. Jeff Littleton (Executive Vice President, ASHRAE), Dr. Sorour Alotiabi (CRC Genreral Chair), many regional officers and delegates and alternates of 18 Chapter from RAL.

 

There were address from the society President, Executive Vice President and CRC General Chairs. The Minutes of ASHRAE RAL CRC2008, held in Lisbon, Portugal was presented and approved with minor changes. The present Regional officers, Sub Regional Chairs (SRCs) and Regional Vice Chairs (RVCs) presented their reports for the year 2008-2009.After lunch all the present chapters presented their reports, and submitted the floor their proposed motioned to the floor to be debated and voted on the next day.

 

During the lunch Mr. Gordon Holness delivered a presidential address to the attendees.

 

A social trip to Kuwait Towers was organized for all the attendees, where they enjoyed the evening with dinner.

 

On October 4, 2009 the Business session reconvene at 9:30 AM, with roll call of delegates and alternates, update on the RAL officers meeting held on October 2, 2009, and update on the RAL budget. About 35 motions presented the day before, were debated and voted. Given the enormous number of motions the meeting continued with a break for the Awards luncheon. Later old business, new business, audience questions and discussions were entertained. The meeting adjourned the announcement of host of the CRC2010. The RVC's of the four committees (Membership Promotion, Student Activities, Chapter Technology Transfer and Research Promotion) delivered workshop on their respective committees to the chairs of the chapters on October 4, 2009 after lunch.

 

During the Award luncheon, many attendees were awarded with certificate of attendees for their unbiased support to the chapters region and the society. The sponsoring companies were also recognized, for their support the CRC2009, without which the conference could not be a success.

 

A social dinner was arranged at Kuwait Radisson SAS Hotel in the evening, where the attendees had a glance to Kuwait's traditional dance and expo.

 

Spouse tours were arranged on October 3, to the Scientific Center and the Marina Shopping Mall and on October 4 to the Tarij–Rahab Museum and Avenue Shopping Mall.

 

Technical Symposium, October 5, 2009

In addition to the business and executive meetings on October 3 and 4, a technical symposium was held on Oct. 5th, 2009 with the theme: Sustainability and Green Buildings Design. This Symposium was inaugurated by the Minister of Electricity and Water, Dr. Bader Alshiraan (ASHRAE Member, Student Branch Advisor 2005-2007).

 

The symposium featured 4 keynote speakers, a panel discussion, and presentations of technical papers related to this theme, including topics such as Building energy and sustainability certification, Green building rating and labeling, Energy efficiency in buildings, Renewable energy for buildings, Low energy buildings and District cooling applications.
